Hello again!
I have been meaning to get caught up here in my own little blog world. The rush of the Easter season is behind me so things are a little bit quieter... at least for now. I really look forward to coming here and keeping, my thoughts, ideas and life in order. So many have asked what I have been up to, so let's see if I can give a somewhat brief update and provide maybe a few ideas or inspiration to someone else out here.
I first want to just say that I have been excited and encouraged with all of the support and opportunities that have come my way in the last few months. To anyone who is wondering...there are so many opportunities if you are willing to be creative, think outside the box a bit and use the internet for the wonderful networking and resources it can provide. I never really know what each day will be like and it has provided some spice to life. The job market is soft, which we all know, but I think there has never been a better time, if employment change comes your way, to strike out and try something new or something you have always wanted to do if the opportunity presents itself. I also believe there has never been a better time to start a new business. Spring is the time for new beginnings...right? It is a great time.
I have been a long time marketer so it is a perfect fit for freelance services. In addition to my education and background in that area, I also have a long, rich history in events, retail, hospitality, finance, writing and advertising/PR that is being woven beautifully into my own personal brand. I wanted to combine everything in my past so I can bring it all wrapped in a nice neat package to whoever I may service. I have come across projects so far that include; customer service evaluations and survey work and gathering data for marketing research companies such as GfK, Maritz Marketing Research, Ath Consulting and others. They independent contract out many tasks that are directed to certain geographic areas. It all is keeping me engaged in the practice and principles of marketing. When I was first out of college, first married and children were little, I did experience metropolitan living in D.C. and later in Detroit where I worked many years in retail. I worked for Macy's, Neiman Marcus & Talbots. I am so fortunate through a profile I built online of my past experience, to have come across two great merchandising companies and have gotten to know Carol at ASC and Jennifer at MCG. I want to give them a big "thank-you" for letting me feed off of this past experience and get back into merchandising and line of work I had to step away from when I left "big city" life. I am loving it! I work for them just part-time, but it allows me to be a vendor representative for various product lines, do display work and sales. A killer combination of optimization. It is a targeted, specific skill set that they use and utilize when needed. It is out-sourcing at its best and employment of our tomorrow. I am fortunate to have met these ladies. I really enjoy working for them!
To add another dimension to freelance work, (and beginning to get my feet wet) writing is a great way to enhance work experience and for me...literally spread my wings. There is a great need for good, professional web content. I am going to send out another BIG "thank-you" to Richard who needed writers to provide articles for all sorts of ingredients on his new website: www.Mykitchenvault.com. I was fortunate enough to have him like my sample work and choose me as one of his contributing writers. My Kitchen Vault actually will have all kinds of ingredients listed and let you plug in, at any given time, what you just happen to have in your pantry or refrigerator and pull up recipes that fit with your ingredients entered. No more wondering what may be for dinner. He is in the initial stages of launching this website so it is brand new and very exciting. Go check it out! Writing is an outlet for me and a way to build residual income on the web through Google. All that is required is an Adsense account and a Paypal account. www.eHow.com is another great place to write and build a portfolio.

I like the advantage of being able to search, pick and then choose the projects, tasks and experience I like to work on. Even if it is slow going, I can gradually move and enjoy building relationships with all of these great people, connections and companies. Relationships that will add depth to marketing services & freelance work that will eventually be a full independent business for me. If anyone has questions or wants further resources, drop me a line or also try www.Freelancefolder.com a great place for support and advice. As for me....I can keep you posted on my progress here. I am also working on a personal website of mine (that will someday be done).
You never know what can come your way, once you open up, try new things and give change a chance. I can confirm opportunities definitely exist.
After all...it is an adventure!
If you're looking for more freelance work, I'd suggest VWorker. Most of the jobs are for programmers/coders, but they have a good deal of writing, editing, and copyediting tasks on VWorker too.
